Post Christmas - Pre 2009

I can't tell you how many nights I've fallen in bed swearing not to move a muscle for the next 8 hours, but thinking, man I should really get up and blog about how great this week has been.

And it has been. Great.

Christmas came in a FLURRY of time with family, and more time with family, and just a liiitttlle more time with family! My in-laws probably thought we moved in with them!! Nick's family is on a every-other-year rotation, and this year, everyone was home for Christmas (next year, it's Chrisgiving :) ). Everyone made it safely home Christmas Eve, and my day started out with finishing Christmas shopping, seeing my second family (this is what happens when you're best friends with someone for 18 years...you just assimilate into their family!), and having Christmas Eve dinner with my parents. I went from there back to Nick's family's house for awhile and visited, then came our first married Christmas together.

Now - I try so hard to not be all mushy about the married "firsts" but this one was just so amazing that I will mush about it for a minute! Nick woke me up at 6:30 saying "soo....it's Christmas! Let's open presents!!" Yes, that's right. My 28 year old husband was literally giggling with delight that morning. It was just too cute!! We video taped our first year together (his idea), and sat on our floor by our very first Christmas tree and opened presents. These are things that just can't be beat people. I will forever remember that morning.

It has been a whirlwind of family ever since then, culminating with a sisters night last night in the city. I ice skated for the first time!!! It was just so amazingly wonderful to spend a few hours with my sisters.

And just so you don't think we're really the calm, cool, collected women in this photo....

Yep. That's us :)

So here we are at the end of the year now. It's been an AMAZING year, of which I will detail in a later post. I'm so excited for the upcoming year, and I'll share all my plans with you soon!

Until then, my New Years resolution? I am going to blog EVERY DAY of January. Even if it's just a few quick comments. Every day there will be something new on this blog.

Excited?? I.Think.You.ARE!

Aruba Aruba

So we're home! One week into being back, laundry is done, I've survived the first week back at my desk job, and Nick and I still like each other a whole lot even after 10 days in close quarters :)

Really...we had an AMAZING time. It was so relaxing and so waaaarmmmmmm. There are a few "tourist attractions" on the island, but after visiting them, we have decided that there is actually nothing to see on the island, so they just made things up!! It was quite the experience though....an hour and a half literally offroading in a Toyota Corolla. I am now a solid advocate of those cars for durability! It was so delightful to spend so much time together. We slept, sunned by the pool, entertained ourselves with the huge lizards that were very fond of anyone with food, frequented the lazy river, and ate - a lot.

With the holiday's coming up now, we have been shopping, baking and are getting ready for little holiday get together this afternoon. This has been such an amazing season of life together....it's been so much fun!

Here is a sneak peek of our trip. I couldn't resist the corny-ness of the song :)

I have a good new years resolution this year. Stay tuned for it to be announced!

Out of the Office - HONEYMOON BABY!!!

Hello all! One month later....I'm finally posting! I promise that one of my new years resolutions is to post 4 times a week :)

To recap the last month - Thanksgiving was AMAZING. My inlaws and grandparents-in-law came to my family's house for the day and I got to spend it with everyone and it was so fantastic. I love that my families have really meshed - there is no "his side" "her side"...it's just one big family. We had an amazing time. The Saturday after Thanksgiving all of the Langes got together for the annual Christmas tree day! We all trudged out to the tree farm...decorated...ate waaay too much and laughed a lot :)

And now the kicker!!!!

Nick and I are headed to Aruban paradise tomorrow morning at 5:55 a.m. for our long awaited honeymoon. 10 days of warm bliss, romance and pina coladas! I'm so excited for this trip. We knew when we decided to get married in June that we were going to have to take a delayed honeymoon and the anticipation has just grown daily!!! It was completely worth the wait!! Goodbye winter!!!

I just wanted to leave you with a few snapshots of my last weekend....

Heart of a Nation

So. Washington DC. I'm not sure what to say or where to start. This was my first trip to DC and it was....incredible, majestic, overwhelming, and a lot of other adjectives that I'm having a hard time finding. I will admit to being a slight history freak. I went to Rome/Germany a few years back and I think I acted like a 4 year old for 10 days straight there being immersed in history like that. Aaaaand you can ask my amazing friend Sarah, and she'd tell you that I might have at least acted 5 this time :) Regardless of what the state of our political world is....that city represents EVERYTHING that is our country. I just walked around with my jaw hanging open asking a lot of "what's that building??" questions :) Poor Sarah deserves a saint award for not killing me!!

Our AMAZING weekend started out flying in Thursday night to spend the weekend with Sarah and Kristen, in the city with Sarah on Friday, Harvest Party Friday night, tired and early bedtime, weddings on Saturday and then back to the city for me on Sunday! I passed out on the plan going home from utter exhaustion!!! Here are some of the highlights of my trip:

My new desktop background....so powerful.

Photobucket

Sarah and I GPS'ed 1600 Pennslyvania Avenue to get downtown from Kristen's house :)

Photobucket

The Capitol Building was under construction for the Inaugural ceremonies, but I was able to get a couple great shots anyway!

Photobucket

This guy was walking around the Tidal Basin with his assistant, with fishing clothes OVER his suit and dress shoes. It was quite the site!

Photobucket

Arlington National was.....emotional for me.

Photobucket

One of the amazing things about the city was the quotes. This one was from the World War II memorial

Photobucket

Photobucket

From the FDR memorial..

Photobucket

Once a photographer always a photographer!!

Photobucket

And speaking of the illustrious woman....I just love her to death!

Photobucket

Nick's brother and wife live in the city and met up with me on Sunday morning and spent the day with me! It was so wonderful to have company!

And a slideshow. I love that city.

(p.s. all photographs of me were taken by Sarah!!)

The whole reason I went to DC was to second shoot for Kristen...stay tuned for photos!!!

Washington DC

I have SO MUCH to post about already for this trip, but to tie you over until I get home and have time to process photos....Sarah and I are quite possibly the biggest nerds that the world has ever seen!! We're sitting in Kristen's room on our beds, and skype'ing each other because we're just too worn out to turn our heads to see each other as we talk. Aaaaannnnd Sarah taught me how to screen cap on a mac :)

Sarah, I love you.

Stay tuned for more from the city!

Mick and Amber :: Engaged!

Okay! The long awaited post for Mick and Amber! When I met with these two for a cup of coffee to talk about their wedding....I had no idea how much fun they were going to be. I'm serious. I think we sat there for over 2 hours and maybe talked about the wedding for 20 minutes! Haha! They are an AMAZING couple, with an amazing heart. I heard all about their beginnings, when he liked her and she wasn't really into him, and then later when he asked her to be his girlfriend in the most incredible, thought out process - a walk through the school campus stopping at meaningful areas and ending where Mick wrote in the grass "Amber, will you be mine?. I heard about the meeting of the families and their journey together. I watched this man sit next to her and listen to her talk and just openly praise and dote on her. Amber is another bride that I grew up with. We went to church together for as long as I can remember...and I have absolutely LOVED being a part of weddings of my childhood friends. It makes it just that much more personal and meaningful for me and I just have a blast with these women.

Their engagement story miiiiight be my favorite of all time. Mick went ALL OUT for it. He made a video (with the help of Eddie!), and he went around his family asking them to talk to Amber about him, about advice, anything they wanted. And then...he went to Ohio with Amber's dad to interview and have Amber's family speak to her. My heart was turning to mush listening to them tell this story together. Absolute mush! Long story short, he delivered the video to her house to watch and waited for her outside. He proposed by writing in her front lawn "Amber, will you marry me?" just like a few short years ago when he asked her to be his girlfriend. THAT, my friends....is creative and sweet and adoring. UGH! I just love it!!!

Anyway! We move on to their engagement photos and can I just tell you how utterly AMAZING they were?? We headed downtown and with the light disappearing so fast these days, we ended up doing most of their shoot at night, which was my first experience ever! They were the perfect couple for it! I barely had to direct them at all...they were so comfortable and up for absolutely ANYTHING. Really....anything. It was amazing. Their shoot looks different than what I'm used to, because of the night lights, but I couldn't narrow down my options to anything less than the 118 favorites I came up with! I started with 149 favorites and figured that was too long for a slideshow :)

Mick and Amber - you two are amaaaaaazing. I adore these photos, and I really enjoyed my time with you! I can't wait for June!

Carter and Ashley :: Married!!

Everytime I leave a wedding, there are 3 or 4 things that just stick with me. Sometimes it's the fabulous little details...sometimes it's a fantastic wedding party....sometimes it's a gorgeous bride...or something similar! I left this wedding still in AWE of the beautiful, beautiful, beautiful transformation of the church that Ashley's father had pastored for years. I left knowing beyond a shadow of a doubt that God was present with them that day. I left with beautiful images of a bride who laughed with her bridesmaids and was honestly just stunningly beautiful. I am a hopeless lover of all things wedding, and I never get over that gasp of beauty seeing a bride in her dress and veil. But I'm telling you....something about Ashley that day was absolutely breathtaking. Her hair was soft, her smile was big, her dress was beautiful and fit in perfectly with the entire feel of her wedding....and I couldn't stop staring at her all night! Poor Carter never even stood a chance..... :)

Now on to the little lovebirds! Carter was the illusion of calm, cool and collected all morning. He joked with his guys, smiled for his photos and was up for anything I asked of him! He admitted a little later that he was feeling a little bit nervous, but it was the most endearing admission I've ever heard. Their ceremony was intimate and personal and ended with the sweetest first kiss. We headed out to the park for photographs and then back for a loud, fun-filled reception! The day was amazing, and so personal to them both and I just loved being a part of it!

Ashley and Carter - I pray that God will bless your marriage, and that the things that you vowed to each other would never become mere words. You both have amazing hearts for the Lord and for each other and I am so honored to have been a part of your wedding day!

So Far Behind

We FINALLY have internet back! I thought I was going to die with a 6 day time span with no internet, but it appears that I continued to breathe and have, in fact, made it! The move went as well as moves can go, and we are mostly unpacked with the exception of a kitchen table full of things that I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do with. I'm hoping to wrap everything up over the weekend so I can finally eat dinner on that table again!

All of that to say - there are a LOT of people that are waiting to see their photographs! I'm working as best I can to get through shoots, and get them up! Stay tuned for a lot of things over the next few days!

Just a few teasers of a gorgeous bride....

Ethan and Joylynn :: Married!

Right now, I'm sitting on my couch with has no back pillows on it, and I'm starting at the stacks of boxes around me, wondering how my entire life is sitting in just a couple dozen boxes. It's amazing how the material things of our life seem so important until you see them in boxes. Then I realize that my husband being next to me on the couch, listening to him laugh, and having him try to hold my hand while I type....means more than anything I have in those boxes.

Yes, we are moving. Nick is going back to school to get his Masters and I'm so incredibly excited for him. It has meant packing up and taking down wall decorations, and many nights of worrying that my glass table top, wine glasses, or cocktail cups are going to shatter in the truck mid-move. Completely dramatic...I know. But still. I'm a girl, and it's my prerogative to be dramatic :)

ALLLL of that to say - this blog post is days late for a good reason! Ethan and Joylynn got married last weekend with a wonderful, family and fun filled affair! It was a beautiful, personal day for them. I know a lot of family from far out of town was able to make it in for the day and I know it meant the world to the happy couple. The day was greeted with BEAUTIFUL weather, giggling girls and a beaming bride. Joylynn wore her mom's wedding veil, padded slippers, and a teal sash. Ethan laughed with his groomsmen getting ready and just gazed at his bride all day. I'd definitely say the day was a complete success.

A few of my favorites from the day...

The cupcake tower and topper...

A fantastic wedding party

Michael and Gwen: :: Engaged!

My city girl older sister has fallen in love with a country cowboy - and let me just say that country fits her perfectly. Gwen and I lived downtown together a few years back, and I first heard about Michael on the train ride back from looking at apartments before our move. I heard about this guy at work that she was really interested in, but it was complicated (perfect chick flick material!), but she couldn't help it...she just really liked him! It went from that to late night phone calls and good night emails. I used to laugh at her when she and Michael would have a date night and he would drop her off and immediately call her to talk on the way home - but it was just the start of their love story, and I got to be there for it! And now, 4 years or so later, she is committing the rest of her life to this man.

Sometimes you come across couples that inspire you and challenge you. Sometimes you meet people that just fit. Sometimes you hear stories that portray unbreakable love. Gwen and Michael are one of those couples. They have been literally through thick and thin together, and have come out the other end more committed and more in love.

A few of my favorites from the day...

Gwennie was so excited about sunset photos to end the night.

And because she's my sister...I have to brag about how freaking BEAUTIFUL she is.

Michael - you love her amazingly well, and I know that I don't even see the half of it. She means the world to all of us and we're excited to have you join our world! Gwennie - I love you with everything in me and I'm very excited for this next phase of your life.

Ethan and Joylynn :: Engaged!

Yay for weddings!!! I am so incredibly thrilled to be shooting this wedding in two weeks! Joylynn and I were friends when we were younger and when she emailed me to tell me that she was engaged I jumped at the chance to shoot her wedding! I haven't seen this gorgeous girl in several years and when we met up last Saturday for their engagement shoot - she hasn't changed! She and Ethan met me at Millennium Park and we just wandered the parks and Navy Pier for the next few hours. I hadn't met Ethan before that day, but it was so easy to see how perfect they fit each other. Joylynn loves to smile and laugh and Ethan looks at her in adoration and just kinda shakes his head. He is quieter and more reserved until she gets in front of him and the way his eyes light up is impossible to miss.

Just a few of my favorites....

Helloooooo Georgia O'Keefe

Nic and Allie

And on to Indy! This post is actually weeks late - so I have been to Indy and back with my amazing friend Sarah Barlow, sent her on her way to Nashville and her amazing new apartment, and am finally getting these pictures posted! Sarah and I had an amazing weekend together and shot our friend Morgan's sister wedding. I adore shooting weddings with another photographer because its so incredibly laid back. I interned with Sarah last summer and was perfectly content to let her take the lead and focus more on the smaller things. We had so much fun, and this wedding was AMAZING.

I knew when I walked into Morgan's room and saw her lime green JCrew Maid-of-honor dress that this was going to be an amazing day. Allie and Nic got married at an art gallery, the girls were in coral and lime green, the guys wore flip flops and Allie wore both red shoes and my orange wedding shoes!!!! Allie and Nic paid attention to the little details all the way down to limes and lemon's for place card holders. Everything was fun, classy and laid back. It was beautiful!!!

Allie's dress was........there are actually no words. Stunning, beautiful, classy, elegant....none of those words do it justice. This dress was made for this girl! It fit her like a glove and she looked like a million bucks in it!!! Between the lace, halter cut, extreme mermaid cut look - there is no way I could pick a favorite part, but her bow might take first place.

Photobucket

And helloooooo red shoes!

Photobucket

Allie and Nic did a "first look" which made the day flow so amazingly well. I stood with Nic facing me as Allie walked up behind him and I couldn't stop my smile from stretching off my face watching him grin waiting for that tap on his shoulder.

Photobucket

This might be my favorite shot from the day.

Photobucket

And even though the day was all about Nic and Allie - I have to post these few of my beautiful friend and the maid-of-honor, Morgan.

Allie and Nic you had an amazing wedding and I wish you both the best in this new season of life!
