I just saw this on Jessica Mortiz' website ( and was completely amazed. I had to share it...

It's amazing to me that there are people out there that think like this - so far beyond the ordinary.

Whirlwind Planning!!!

First of all - anyone that says it takes 6 months to plan a wedding should hire me as their coordinator! We've got everything but a musician booked...after only 11 days after getting engaged!

This has been THE MOST exciting season of life!! Everything from the random stranger in the elevator gushing over my ring, to the feeling of trying on the first wedding dress, to the congratulations from the caterer (yes, I know it's just good business practices for them but everything seems just that more exciting right now!!), to the girlfriends that call for status's been amazing. I'm normally a really happy person in the first place, but lately all I seem to do is smile like an idiot. All the time. And it's amazing!

Yesterday I went with my mom and my oldest sister to the Nicole Miller boutique downtown. Another of my sisters had been looking around online months ago and found this dress and emailed it to me with a note that said something like "this is your dress!" I looked at this dress and had my very first "light from heaven" moment. This dress was BEAUTIFUL. I've had a photo of it hanging on my freezer door (it got put away every time Nick was at the house) for months. Well. Yesterday we went to try it on, and it was MADE for me. I couldn't believe it!!!! It was beautiful and elegant and exactly what I was looking for!!

So now I'm thinking that since my bridesmaids are in teal (jersey dresses from Victoria Secret of all places :) ), I might try to find a funky pair of teal shoes! It's the perfect compliment to my already insanely colorful wedding!!

Excuse me now while I go smile my way through my work day....

Happy Wednesday everyone!!

Our Story

I started my new job at Spank! Music and Sound Design on June 21, 2004. I was thrilled about this new job, my new apartment on Michigan Avenue, and the world that was before me. We all (all of the 5 people I worked with) went to lunch that day, and I walked next to Nick some of the way thinking "MAN! he's hott!!" He unfortunatly had a girlfriend BUT! it was the start of a really amazing friendship. He worked three days a week at the office, and over time they became the three days I'd look forward to the most. We had our little inside jokes, our games, and our lunchtime routines of going running together. As his relationship ended, and our friendship grew.....this is our story.

We started to spend hours on the phone together at night. Literally. We'd be up until 2 a.m. talking, and then see each other 7 hours later at the office and just talk more. I walked into work on my birthday in 2005, and started my morning just like every other. Nick came in for the day and placed a cookie tin on my desk with a card on top. He had been up for hours the night before making me chocolate mint cookies for my birthday :) He asked if I would go to dinner with him that Saturday and I, of course, said yes! That Saturday, long story short, we ended up at dinner with his parents and his brother and fiancee (now wife)!! It gave us the best first date story :) Our first date ended with our first kiss - something that I still remember like it was yesterday.

I very distintly remember laying on my sisters bed talking to him just a few short days after that first date thinking to myself "this is the man I'm going to marry one day."

Well. A little over two years later...I'm marrying that man.

It has been the CRAZIEST week of my life!!! Nick proposed to me last Saturday night when I got back from Scott and Tatiana's wedding. I pulled into his driveway and there was a sign on his door saying "I remember it all..." There were roses and candles leading in a trail up the stairs and down the hall to his room with more signs posted on the wall "our first date...our first kiss...our trips...we've come so far...but now it's time to take the next step".

Girls - you can understand that feeling. I started crying as soon as I read that. My brain was screaming at me to not forget anything of this moment, while at the same time being totally incapable of grasping what was going on!

I opened the door and there he was. This man that I have learned to love more than anything else. This man that I trust with my life and my heart. This man that makes my toes curl with every kiss, and my heart melt with every touch. There he was - surrounded by candles.

He got down on one knee and started to cry and said the most romantic things in the world that I can really only paraphase at this point. The words that he said next are forever in my mind..

"Will you be my wife?"

(this is the girls all start screaming with delight!)

We're getting married June 1st!! Just a short 10 weeks and 2 days from today, and I will be Mrs. Nicholas DeCaluwe.

I just don't even know how to tell you ..... I love this man!!!!!

The Fabulous Mrs. Kaminski

One of the first things I noticed as Scott and Tatiana's wedding day began, was the immense love of her parents, not only for thier beautiful daughter(s), but also between themselves. I recieved a phone call from Tatiana's father yesterday, asking me to show a photograph of Mrs. Kaminski. With a voice filled with obvious love, admiration, and a passion that has held through the years, he pointed out that she had played such a huge role in that whole day, and he would really like to honor her and see a photograph of her.

I found out early Saturday morning that Tatiana's parents actually eloped!! They never got to plan a traditional wedding, and never had to go through the planning and preparing! (Best idea I've ever heard!!). Tatiana teaches, and wasn't able to get off until the day before her wedding. I couldn't believe it when she told me! Because she was otherwise occupied, her wonderful mother stepped in and took on a huge portion of responsibilities and planning for the big day!

Mr. Kaminski, I loved watching you throughout the entire day. You are a wonderful man, and your girls (all four of them!) are immensely lucky to have you in their lives. Thank you for this small view I was able to have into the love you share so deeply with the woman of your dreams.

Scott and Tatiana

Scott and Tatiana's wedding yesterday was amazing!! I absolutely LOVE those two!! The day started with the girls at the salon for hair and makeup, which they miraculously got done on time, then on to the church for dressing and last minute touch ups! The ceremony was beautiful, and officiated by Scotts father, which made it intimate and special. Tatiana's parents were wonderful all day long and such a joy to be with! Everybody there loved everybody there!! It was such a great atmosphere all day! I laughed a lot listening to the stories being told and the love shared between these two. Scott said something to me while we were taking thier couple shots...I made a comment about how great they were together and he said "she's really good for me. She lightens me up." It was such a simple statement, said with such deep love and admiration for this woman that he just pledged his life too, and it just touched me so much.

Scott and Tatiana, I am so thrilled for you both and pray for your love to grow and deepen as the years go by. Thank you so much for this opportunity to be a part of your wedding - you have both blessed me by your love.

The Time Has Come!

We're here in Bettendorf, IA! We're an hour and 25 minutes away from meeting up with the LOVELY bride and her party for a morning of girl stuff - hair, makeup, laughing! The snow showers held off for the night, and it looks pretty promising so far this morning for a little warmer weather!!

Today is the start of BethLaurren Photography's 2008 schedule! Dates are booking fast!!

Our favorite quotes of the morning:
"on an active earthquake line....earthquakes aren't active!", "We should dead anyone....kill! kill anyone!" It's been an early morning with little sleep - things are bound to get exciting around here - starting with spilled hot chocolate, complicated waffle machines and losing hair mousse!!

Weddings Weddings

It has occurred to me that I have yet to post anything from the wedding I shot with Sarah two weeks ago... so those photo's are coming!

This weekend is the big day for Scott and Tatiana! I'm SO EXCITED for them! I just talked with Tatiana and she was telling me that she's still teaching, and will be up until Friday morning...just a few short hours from her 11:00 a.m. Saturday ceremony! I couldn't believe it! Hang in there, girl! It will be over soon and you'll be headed on your beautiful honeymoon! Scott and Tatiana are a GREAT couple - check out thier engagement shoot here!

Spring weather is coming...I smelled it for the first time today :)

Happy Tuesday everyone!!
