I have SO MUCH to post about already for this trip, but to tie you over until I get home and have time to process photos....Sarah and I are quite possibly the biggest nerds that the world has ever seen!! We're sitting in Kristen's room on our beds, and skype'ing each other because we're just too worn out to turn our heads to see each other as we talk. Aaaaannnnd Sarah taught me how to screen cap on a mac :)
Okay! The long awaited post for Mick and Amber! When I met with these two for a cup of coffee to talk about their wedding....I had no idea how much fun they were going to be. I'm serious. I think we sat there for over 2 hours and maybe talked about the wedding for 20 minutes! Haha! They are an AMAZING couple, with an amazing heart. I heard all about their beginnings, when he liked her and she wasn't really into him, and then later when he asked her to be his girlfriend in the most incredible, thought out process - a walk through the school campus stopping at meaningful areas and ending where Mick wrote in the grass "Amber, will you be mine?. I heard about the meeting of the families and their journey together. I watched this man sit next to her and listen to her talk and just openly praise and dote on her. Amber is another bride that I grew up with. We went to church together for as long as I can remember...and I have absolutely LOVED being a part of weddings of my childhood friends. It makes it just that much more personal and meaningful for me and I just have a blast with these women.
Their engagement story miiiiight be my favorite of all time. Mick went ALL OUT for it. He made a video (with the help of Eddie!), and he went around his family asking them to talk to Amber about him, about advice, anything they wanted. And then...he went to Ohio with Amber's dad to interview and have Amber's family speak to her. My heart was turning to mush listening to them tell this story together. Absolute mush! Long story short, he delivered the video to her house to watch and waited for her outside. He proposed by writing in her front lawn "Amber, will you marry me?" just like a few short years ago when he asked her to be his girlfriend. THAT, my friends....is creative and sweet and adoring. UGH! I just love it!!!
Anyway! We move on to their engagement photos and can I just tell you how utterly AMAZING they were?? We headed downtown and with the light disappearing so fast these days, we ended up doing most of their shoot at night, which was my first experience ever! They were the perfect couple for it! I barely had to direct them at all...they were so comfortable and up for absolutely ANYTHING. Really....anything. It was amazing. Their shoot looks different than what I'm used to, because of the night lights, but I couldn't narrow down my options to anything less than the 118 favorites I came up with! I started with 149 favorites and figured that was too long for a slideshow :)
Mick and Amber - you two are amaaaaaazing. I adore these photos, and I really enjoyed my time with you! I can't wait for June!
Everytime I leave a wedding, there are 3 or 4 things that just stick with me. Sometimes it's the fabulous little details...sometimes it's a fantastic wedding party....sometimes it's a gorgeous bride...or something similar! I left this wedding still in AWE of the beautiful, beautiful, beautiful transformation of the church that Ashley's father had pastored for years. I left knowing beyond a shadow of a doubt that God was present with them that day. I left with beautiful images of a bride who laughed with her bridesmaids and was honestly just stunningly beautiful. I am a hopeless lover of all things wedding, and I never get over that gasp of beauty seeing a bride in her dress and veil. But I'm telling you....something about Ashley that day was absolutely breathtaking. Her hair was soft, her smile was big, her dress was beautiful and fit in perfectly with the entire feel of her wedding....and I couldn't stop staring at her all night! Poor Carter never even stood a chance..... :)
Now on to the little lovebirds! Carter was the illusion of calm, cool and collected all morning. He joked with his guys, smiled for his photos and was up for anything I asked of him! He admitted a little later that he was feeling a little bit nervous, but it was the most endearing admission I've ever heard. Their ceremony was intimate and personal and ended with the sweetest first kiss. We headed out to the park for photographs and then back for a loud, fun-filled reception! The day was amazing, and so personal to them both and I just loved being a part of it!
Ashley and Carter - I pray that God will bless your marriage, and that the things that you vowed to each other would never become mere words. You both have amazing hearts for the Lord and for each other and I am so honored to have been a part of your wedding day!
We FINALLY have internet back! I thought I was going to die with a 6 day time span with no internet, but it appears that I continued to breathe and have, in fact, made it! The move went as well as moves can go, and we are mostly unpacked with the exception of a kitchen table full of things that I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do with. I'm hoping to wrap everything up over the weekend so I can finally eat dinner on that table again!
All of that to say - there are a LOT of people that are waiting to see their photographs! I'm working as best I can to get through shoots, and get them up! Stay tuned for a lot of things over the next few days!
Just a few teasers of a gorgeous bride....
And an engagement session that was BEYOND amazing!
Right now, I'm sitting on my couch with has no back pillows on it, and I'm starting at the stacks of boxes around me, wondering how my entire life is sitting in just a couple dozen boxes. It's amazing how the material things of our life seem so important until you see them in boxes. Then I realize that my husband being next to me on the couch, listening to him laugh, and having him try to hold my hand while I type....means more than anything I have in those boxes.
Yes, we are moving. Nick is going back to school to get his Masters and I'm so incredibly excited for him. It has meant packing up and taking down wall decorations, and many nights of worrying that my glass table top, wine glasses, or cocktail cups are going to shatter in the truck mid-move. Completely dramatic...I know. But still. I'm a girl, and it's my prerogative to be dramatic :)
ALLLL of that to say - this blog post is days late for a good reason! Ethan and Joylynn got married last weekend with a wonderful, family and fun filled affair! It was a beautiful, personal day for them. I know a lot of family from far out of town was able to make it in for the day and I know it meant the world to the happy couple. The day was greeted with BEAUTIFUL weather, giggling girls and a beaming bride. Joylynn wore her mom's wedding veil, padded slippers, and a teal sash. Ethan laughed with his groomsmen getting ready and just gazed at his bride all day. I'd definitely say the day was a complete success.
My city girl older sister has fallen in love with a country cowboy - and let me just say that country fits her perfectly. Gwen and I lived downtown together a few years back, and I first heard about Michael on the train ride back from looking at apartments before our move. I heard about this guy at work that she was really interested in, but it was complicated (perfect chick flick material!), but she couldn't help it...she just really liked him! It went from that to late night phone calls and good night emails. I used to laugh at her when she and Michael would have a date night and he would drop her off and immediately call her to talk on the way home - but it was just the start of their love story, and I got to be there for it! And now, 4 years or so later, she is committing the rest of her life to this man.
Sometimes you come across couples that inspire you and challenge you. Sometimes you meet people that just fit. Sometimes you hear stories that portray unbreakable love. Gwen and Michael are one of those couples. They have been literally through thick and thin together, and have come out the other end more committed and more in love.
A few of my favorites from the day...
Gwennie was so excited about sunset photos to end the night.
And because she's my sister...I have to brag about how freaking BEAUTIFUL she is.
Michael - you love her amazingly well, and I know that I don't even see the half of it. She means the world to all of us and we're excited to have you join our world! Gwennie - I love you with everything in me and I'm very excited for this next phase of your life.
Yay for weddings!!! I am so incredibly thrilled to be shooting this wedding in two weeks! Joylynn and I were friends when we were younger and when she emailed me to tell me that she was engaged I jumped at the chance to shoot her wedding! I haven't seen this gorgeous girl in several years and when we met up last Saturday for their engagement shoot - she hasn't changed! She and Ethan met me at Millennium Park and we just wandered the parks and Navy Pier for the next few hours. I hadn't met Ethan before that day, but it was so easy to see how perfect they fit each other. Joylynn loves to smile and laugh and Ethan looks at her in adoration and just kinda shakes his head. He is quieter and more reserved until she gets in front of him and the way his eyes light up is impossible to miss.
Just a few of my favorites....
Helloooooo Georgia O'Keefe
Gorgeous city evening light...
A perfect portrayal of these two....Joylynn laughing and Ethan smiling with his hands folded :)
I absolutely couldn't resist!!
I'm SO EXCITED for your wedding! See you in just 10 days!!
